Performance LAB
Creating Solo & Autobiographical Work
“If I try to remember, I invent myself”
Serge Doubrovsky
Do you have an idea for a solo show or an autobiographical piece but you’re not sure how to
develop it?
Perhaps you feel uncertain about your project and could benefit from an external eye?
Or maybe you are interested in training and establishing a strong foundation for future solo/autobio
performance practices?
Creating Solo & Autobiographical Work is a 3-month creative training course exploring the
making of solo performance work (including, but not limited to autobiographical practice).
The Lab functions as a theatre
company, meeting twice a week to train and make work. During the
sessions we will experiment with different narrative, dramatic and performative possibilities available
for creating/developing solo pieces, while working on individual projects that will be showcased at a
professional venue at the end of the process.
Throughout the sessions, you may expect to work on:
- Training & preparation
- Dramaturgies: the space, the performer, the text, the scene.
- Creative research - finding sources and exploring different theatrical languages
- Organising your “material” - how to develop, structure and create a theatrical piece (in your preferred
style)
- Refining and polishing your practice as a solo-performer.
DATES & VENUE for Spring/Autumn courses TBC soon
Limited spaces - Admission by interview.
